Three-piece band
The dual fiddles of the 4-piece core band is a very deliberate device we’ve settled on. Together, they create a richer and much more resonant sound.
Also, sometimes the dancers need a little more help getting and staying on track with the music. The two fiddles maintain a stronger sound if the accordion drops out intermittently to provide that help. This is why the 4-piece band is our preferred line-up. However, we can occasionally play as a 3-piece band in which we drop one of the fiddles. The line-up then becomes: fiddle, guitar, accordion/caller.
If you are considering this cheaper option, please be aware that the maximum playing time would be reduced, and the range of dances is likely to be limited to more familiar dances.
