Hogmanay ceilidh in Edinburgh

Hogmanay ceilidh in Edinburgh

We played at a fantastic Hogmanay ceilidh in Edinburgh last night, organised by Mo at the Edinburgh Mojo Meetup group. The ceilidh had sold out several weeks before the event. It turned out to be a high energy evening, with a packed dance floor all night. We headed out to Castle Street to watch the spectacular Edinburgh Hogmanay Street Party fireworks, then rounded the evening off with a few more dances.

One of the things we loved about the evening, was the unexpected appearance of a full set of Vikings at the ceilidh. I’m sure I saw them at the top of Calton Hill the previous night, in the torchlit procession 😉 They were full of energy and fun!

So, we’re wishing everyone a fantastic 2013 – may it bring you whatever you wish for yourself and your friends and family.

We’re looking forward to some fun gigs in 2013. If you’re interested in booking Da Hooley ceilidh band for your own event, you can use our online enquiry form, or call Drew on 0131 665 0101.

Last night saw us out for our third gig this week, this time in North Berwick. We were playing for North Berwick tennis club’s first Christmas party, which turned out to be a seriously energetic evening. I’m not sure we’ve ever crammed so many set dances into such a short space of time before!

We certainly thoroughly enjoyed playing for such a lively crowd, and are hoping we might be invited back for their Christmas party next year.

Surprise birthday party near Crieff

Community hall ceilidh

Tonight we we out playing at a surprise 50th birthday party ceilidh in a wee place called Madderty near Crieff. As we unloaded the car outside the hall, we came across a lovely sculpture of a man sitting on a bench reading a book. We’d love to know the story behind him being there!

Madderty Hall is a lovely place for a ceilidh. It’s a recently built community Hall, with a light airy feel and great acoustics. The band loved it – we’re hoping we’ll be invited back to play there again some time!

Edinburgh ceilidh for graduating students

Ceilidh at Prestonfield House, Edinburgh

At the weekend we played our last ceilidh for the Edinburgh University vet students who graduate this year. This one was a big final dinner dance, held at the Prestonfield House Hotel in Edinburgh. We’ve played a number of Edinburgh ceilidhs for them throughout their years of studying, which have always been high energy evenings, and loads of fun for the band to play.

Wishing you all good luck for the future!

Summer wedding ceilidhs

Summer wedding ceilidhs

We’ve had a quiet couple of months. Now it’s May (and the sun’s out) it’s the season for summer wedding ceilidhs. We’ve got plenty of ceilidhs booked for the coming months, including several at Tyninghame log cabin near Dunbar, which is always a lovely venue for a celebration or party.

Ravensheugh log cabin is right on the coast at Tyninghame, and overlooks the Bass rock and the coast of Fife. For weddings receptions, the couple often arrange to have a marquee put up beside the log cabin, which makes for a wonderful ceilidh venue. For those who enjoy it, there’s also plenty of room nearby to camp.

We still have a few dates available over the summer. If you are thinking of booking the band, you can check our availability on our online band calendar. If you want to book Da Hooley for a particular date, please get in touch early, as we have some bookings more than a year in advance.

Hogmanay ceilidh in Edinburgh

Hogmanay ceilidh, 2011-2012

We’ll be playing for a Hogmanay ceilidh in the centre of Edinburgh  this year. We’ll be right in the middle of town, so just before midnight we’ll all be going out to see the fireworks display at the castle. Just remember to come back as soon as they’re over, as there will be plenty of time for more dancing afterwards.

We’re looking forward to another fun night out!
