Top Edinburgh wedding venues
If you’re looking for a wedding venue in Edinburgh, you’re spoilt for choice. Edinburgh has everything from castles for a luxury wedding, to small church halls for events that have a more homespun feel. This is a list of just some of the band’s favourite venues that we have played in over the years.
Castles
Edinburgh Castle

Edinburgh castle sits on a volcanic rock, right in the heart of the beautiful city of Edinburgh. The castle has several rooms that are suitable for wedding ceremonies. The Jacobite room, with its stunning views over Princes Street, can be booked for evening celebrations.
Craigmillar Castle

This castle isn’t as well known as Edinburgh castle, but is also a stunning venue, out towards the south east side of the city. The castle boasts a great hall, with a high vaulted ceiling.
Hotels
The Balmoral Hotel
Formerly the North British hotel, this grand building is at the east end of Princes Street, right in the heart of the city. The hotel has several function suites, many of which have views of Edinburgh Castle and the Old Town.
Unusual venues
Edinburgh City Chambers
Located on the Royal Mile, in the heart of Edinburgh’s historic Old Town, the City Chambers has beautiful views of the city’s landmarks.

Royal College of Surgeons
The Royal College of Surgeons has a number of venue spaces across it’s campus, including both modern and old historic buildings. There’s something for everyone here.

The Rowantree – in the Cowgate, Edinburgh. Steeped in Edinburgh’s history, this is a small venue with plenty of atmosphere!

The Caves
This venue is part of the original stone vaults in the Cowgate. It has been beautifully restored to create a highly unusual intimate and atmospheric venue.

Churches
Assembly Roxy – central Edinburgh
The Roxy church that has been converted to create a beautiful space, with original features including stone pillars down either side of the hall. The hall has a stage at one end and a bar at the other. The hall is hired along with staffing for the bar. It’s a beautiful space for a ceilidh.

The Hub
At the top of the Royal mile, this Victorian church was refurbished in 1999 to create a stunning venue full of vibrant colours. The Hub’s spire is the highest point in the city centre, making it an easy landmark to find.

Church halls
St Peter’s Church
This is a very reasonably priced venue close to the city centre. The hall has a wooden floor, ideal for ceilidh dancing. There’s no bar, but there is a small kitchen area. The seating/tables can be laid out in the hall just as you like.

Greenside church hall – this is a large hall in central Edinburgh, on the north side of Calton Hill. The hall has a stage, and a lovely large wooden floor, which is ideal for dancing. There’s also a good sized kitchen in the venue.

Cramond Kirk
Cramond Kirk is on the north west side of the city. The hall is a beautiful big space for a wedding celebration. It’s another hall that has a lovely large wooden floor – ideal for ceilidh dancing!

Bellfield, Portobello
This venue made history when it became the first urban community buy out in Scotland. There are 3 spaces – the church itself, a large wooden-floored hall at the rear of the church which has a big stage, and a smaller (also wooden-floored) hall. The large and small hall are side by side and can be booked together to give more space.
Other venues
Bainfield bowling cub
This hall has a lovely dance floor, and an ideal seating arrangement for a ceilidh, with a small stage for the band. There’s a staffed bar in the same room.

Lauriston halls
Situated in the Tollcross area of the city, Lauriston halls is a space that is regularly used for ceilidhs – it has a lovely large wooden floor, and plenty of flexible space for tables and chairs to be laid out around the room.

The Merlin
This venue is upstairs from the Merlin pub, in the Morningside area of Edinburgh. the pub is a busy social hub, while the venue offers an ideal mid-sized venue for a wedding celebration.
